What’s your refund policy? We replace any mat damaged in shipping. We guarantee a match to fabric colors if you send a fabric sample to us via snail mail before we begin painting your mats. For an additional charge, we’ll provide you with color samples to approve before we paint your mats.
How do I care for my Pet Mat? Nat's Pet Food Mats are very durable—vinyl flooring is long lasting and resilient. We recommend wiping them clean with a damp cloth; do not soak them in water. Also, avoid puncturing the mats with high heels or sharp falling objects because the painted design will dimple. Each mat is sealed on the top and sides with five coats of acrylic floor sealer—this is several more coats than new wood floors typically receive, so again, your mat is durable and has a life expectancy of several years. Also we recommend that you don’t let your pet chew their mats.
What makes Nat’s Pet Mats a “green business?” No new vinyl flooring is manufactured to fill our needs; we create Nat's Pet Food Mats from unused product remainders. This is called re-purposing, or re-use. and is a great way to be creative and “green” at the same time. You may know that in terms of effectiveness in reducing waste, not creating it in the first place is the best goal. We also minimize packaging and avoid plastic whenever possible. Our mats are shipped in re-usable, recyclable cardboard that was manufactured with recycled paper, so we know we are helping to close the loop.
Do you make other types of mats other than pet mats? You bet! We love the drawer liners in the kitchen and bathroom because they are so durable and easy to keep clean. Have you seen those big square trays on top of the new leather cube coffee tables? I made one to coordinate with new sofa pillows. Nat's Mats ™ are heat resistant and cold drinks don’t leave a hard-to-remove ring. What are your mats made of? We choose previously unused vinyl flooring and coat the underneath surface with two to three coats of artists’ canvas gesso, painting it with water-based paint free of lead and other toxics, and finally apply five coats of acrylic floor sealer to the painted top and sides of the vinyl. The back of the mat looks like a vinyl floor sample. They are not designed to be reversible. Our Pet Food Mats are made in the USA and, unlike many toys from China, our products and paints are completely lead-free.

Can you match the color scheme of my room and cut it to a unique size and shape? Absolutely—on both counts. Send me a material sample. If that’s not possible, we’ll talk via email or by phone to determine the colors and I’ll send you a color sample to approve. As for the shape, an octagon, triangle, pentagon, square or rectangle, a sunburst, a flower, a circle, a star, you name it! I can make the mat go around a corner or notch it to fit around a built-in.
What’s the difference between a portrait and a likeness? Portraits usually emphasize realism; instead I create likenesses so as to bring out your pet’s uniqueness and individuality. If your pet is a purebred, I’ll know how to create a general likeness, but I’d like more information than just the breed. Photos always help. If your pet’s a mixture, I’ll definitely need some photos. I can emphasize something special about your pet, perhaps the tail, eyes, ears, or even energy level.
How do I know you’ve got an understanding about my pet’s appearance? From the information you provide, I’ll incorporate key elements. For example, Mike W. told me his golden retriever, Lucy, had beautiful, soft brown eyelashes. He wanted a mat that would keep water off his new kitchen floor. Lucy’s likeness has her unique eyelashes and there’s a light blue glaze where the water might be on the mat after she’s finished satisfying her thirst. She’s a female living in an all-male home, so there are soft pink dots and smudges on the big bone in the mat’s center.
